DKD COLLEGE, DERGAON As per direction of the DHE, Guwahati, Assam DKD College library constituted Library Advisory Committee under the chairmanship of the principal. The librarian should be the convener of that committee and other members (two from each stream) are selected by the principal from different streams. Committee sits twice in a year for discussing all-round development of the library. Objectives and Functions- The objectives of the Library Advisory Committee is- 1. To implementation of the library rules and regulations and for betterment of the library management in the interest of the users of the library. 2. To develop the library services to the utmost benefit of the users. 3. To look after the fund utilization allotted to the library 4. To submit the reports along with minutes to the GB for taking further action. 5. To manage the all round library activities. OPENING HOURS : The Library will remain open from 9am to 4pm on all working days. These may be curtailed or extended in special circumstances by prior notice on the notice board. 2. MEMBERSHIP : The membership of the Library is open to all students, teachers, regular employees and other employees of the college. Membership shall apply to the librarian in prescribed forms. 3. CATEGORIES OF MEMBERSHIP AND THEIR PRIVILEGES : The categories of membership, numbers of books to which entitled, period of loan and membership fees are as follows- Category No. of books Period of Loan Fees A Teachers 15 90 Nil B Students i) H S 2 15 Rs.80/ ii) TDC(G) 2 15 Rs.80/ iii) TDC(M) 4 15 Rs.80/ iv) PG 4 20 Rs. 4. ADMISSION TO THE LIBRARY :
On entering the Library, every member shall be required to write legibly his/her name and class/subject in the Visitor’s Register kept for the purpose at the entrance of the Library. Such a signature will be taken as an acknowledgement that the person agrees to abide by the Library Rules. The Library Attendant at the entrance is authorized to examine everything that passes in to or goes out of the Library. Readers are not allowed to take their personal belongings such as handbags, umbrellas, files, personal books etc, inside the Library. These must be deposited at the entrance. 5. USE OF BOOKS : Every person (reader) taking a book out of the library shall be responsible for the book and shall return it undamaged. Reader (User) found guilty of mutilating or disfiguring or defacing by writing in the margin, underlining sentences or of losing a book or other property belonging to the library, shall be required to replace such books, other property damaged or defaced. If the book is of a set or series must be replaced at their (reader) cost. If replacement is not possible, triple of the latest edition cost price will be required to pay. Further hw/she may be deprived of the privileges of the library to be decided by Library committee. Books issued to members are non-transferable without prior sanction of the Librarian. Books on loan shall be handled with all care to enable their continued use to the maximum extent possible. No book shall be issued on loan, if the book, in the opinion of the librarian, is not in a condition to be safely handled by the borrower. Books treated as reference by the library, rare books, journals/magazines (Bound/unbound), Bulletins, reports, etc shall not be issued out of the library. 6. CODE OF CONDUCT IN THE LIBRARY : The readers ticket will be tenable for one academic year only and shall be non transferable. Loss or damage of the reader’s ticket must be reported immediately to the librarian concerned. Duplicate card may be issued after proper verification and that will be on payment of Rs. 10.00. Any misuse of the readers’ ticket may lead to cancellation of privilege enjoyed by the member. Books must be returned within the stipulated period. Retaining a book beyond the time allowed shall pay a overdue charge of Rs. 1.00 per day. A student will not be entitled to get his/her admit card to any examination unless he/she obtains a clearance certificate from the librarian. Readers should carefully examine the books issued to them before leaving the library counter. They shall bring immediately to the notice of the librarian any damage or mutilation of the books issued. Otherwise the borrower will be held responsible for any such damage or mutilation and he/she may be required to replace it. Readers are required to maintain the order of the books on the shelves. Conversations, making noise and smoking inside the library are strictly prohibited. Silence shall be strictly observed in the library. Hygienic conditions must be ensured in the library so that readers may be able to study in healthy atmosphere. No reader shall be allowed to sleep in the library, especially in the reading room. Creating nuisance within the library shall account to breach of discipline, whenever, on occasion demands the librarian shall have the right to take action on the spot as he deems necessary. The librarian may straightway cancel his/her membership. If further follow up action is necessary he shall report the matter to the appropriate authorities. When the students have any complaint about the library service they should not enter into any argument with the library staff, but bring it to the notice of the librarian. Any misuse of this or violation of any rule or codes may lead to the cancellation of his privilege. The library rules may be amended or altered as and when necessary.
